Should Connecticut even have a property transfer tax? - Financial ...

Every mortgage is like a mugging

What a surprise, Connecticut is embroiled in a tax issue with mortgage companies and in this case, it?s over the 1 percent property transfer tax.

It just goes to show what a desperate time it is for Bridgeport as it tries to raise revenue, but is locked into the property tax issue. It?s sad really, because on the flip side, the tax itself seems a bit suspect.

It?s a paltry one percent tax but it seems like an ungracious swipe at the seller, upon whom it is levied.? It seems to be a sort of lost shot at the sucker before he or she escapes paying the property tax in that town or city.

It?s not that way in all states. Fourteen don?t charge it. And is some the buyer pays it or, it?s shared or negotiated as to who pays.

Regardless of who pays it, it just seems in Connecticut to be one tax too many.

I mean jeez, the state shouldn?t be taxing a property sale, it should be cheering it. After all, some idiot has shown they have lost all reason and are gambling things are going to be good enough to raise a family in that community. They?re going to be paying property and other taxes along the way.
